A Hole By Hole Description of the Course:

Jump straight to a hole:

OUT: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9
IN: 10 - 11 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 17 - 18

Hole 1:  1st Hole

Distance (competition tees): 290yds
Par: 4
SI: 12

A testing first tee shot with trees left and right and two fairway bunkers to catch an errant tee shot. The fairway slopes from left to right and so a good shot up the left-side should finish in the middle of the fairway.

Hole 2:  2nd Hole

Distance (competition tees): 280yds
Par: 4
SI: 16

This is a short par 4 with a fairway that slopes severely right to left. A fairway bunker is located on the right-hand side. It is best to keep the ball on the top-right of the fairway in order to see the putting surface for the second shot.

Hole 3:  3rd Hole

Distance (competition tees): 376yds
Par: 4
SI: 8

The third hole is a right to left dog-leg with bushes and trees on the left hand corner. It is better to be on the right-hand side for a clear shot to the difficult sloping green. However the bigger hitters will take the tiger-line over the bushes.

Hole 4:  4th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 440yds
Par: 4
SI: 2

A tough par 4 which is a slightly right to left dog-leg. There are no fairway bunkers and the best line from the tee is the marker pole. Anything too far to the right will leave a long second shot to the green.

Hole 5:  5th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 308yds
Par: 4
SI: 18

A relatively short par 4 with two fairway bunkers left and right. Bushes on the left and out of bounds to the right mean that an accurate tee shot is required. The sensible players will lay up short of the bunkers but most will try to hit a driver past them for an easier chip to the green.

Hole 6:  6th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 172yds
Par: 3
SI: 10

The first of three testing par 3 holes on the course with a stroke index of 10. It is difficult to see the actual putting surface from the tee and bunkers protect the green at the front and both sides. The weather conditions will dictate club choice which can be anything from a 7 to a 4 iron. A par on this hole is a good result.

Hole 7:  7th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 442yds
Par: 4
SI: 4

This is another long and testing par 4 hole, although it is a fairly wide fairway target from the tee. The second shot is generally a long iron or fairway wood and with the fairway and green sloping away from the player it is not always easy to hit in two strokes.

Hole 8:  8th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 358yds
Par: 4
SI: 14

A slightly left to right dogleg hole, the perfect tee shot will fly over the fairway bunker on the right hand side. Three bunkers guard the green with two on the left but a well-flighted second shot should set up a birdie opportunity.

Hole 9:  9th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 225yds
Par: 3
SI: 6

This is the signature hole with the tee 100 feet above the green. The stroke index of 6 reflects the difficulty of the hole and it is a very satisfying shot that finds the putting surface. Once again the club selection can vary from a 3 wood to an 8 iron.

Hole 10:  10th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 502yds
Par: 5
SI: 5

The only par 5 on the course but good course management should see a par on the card. The drive takes the player back towards the first tee and then it is a dog-leg to the left; generally over the trees on the corner with the second shot. With the yellow back-nine flag generally on the left of the green it is advisable to ensure the second tee shot settles on the right of the fairway for an easier shot to the green.

Hole 11:  11th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 280yds
Par: 4
SI: 17

This is a short par 4 with a fairway that slopes severely right to left. A fairway bunker is located on the right-hand side. It is best to keep the ball on the top-right of the fairway in order to see the putting surface for the second shot.

Hole 12:  12th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 376yds
Par: 4
SI: 7

The third hole is a right to left dog-leg with bushes and trees on the left hand corner. The 12th green is raised and is a much smaller green that the 3rd played first time round. An accurate tee shot is essential for a safe second shot to a green that usually holds the ball extremely well.

Hole 13:  13th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 440yds
Par: 4
SI: 1

A tough par 4 which is a slightly right to left dog-leg and which has a stroke index of 1. There are no fairway bunkers and the best line from the tee is the marker pole. Anything too far to the right will leave a long second shot to the green.

Hole 14:  14th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 308yds
Par: 4
SI: 15

A relatively short par 4 with two fairway bunkers left and right. Bushes on the left and out of bounds to the right mean that an accurate tee shot is required. The sensible players will lay up short of the bunkers but most will try to hit a driver past them for an easier chip to the green.

Hole 15:  15th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 435yds
Par: 4
SI: 3

This is another long and testing par 4 hole, although it is a fairly wide fairway target from the tee. The second shot is generally a long iron or fairway wood and with the fairway and green sloping away from the player it is not always easy to hit in two strokes.

Hole 16:  16th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 320yds
Par: 4
SI: 13

Played from a different tee to the 8th, this hole is much straighter with a fairway bunker on the right and one some 20 yards short of the green. Generally a good drive up the right-hand side should see the ball in the middle of the fairway with a straightforward shot to the green.

Hole 17:  17th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 203yds
Par: 3
SI: 11

The final tough par 3 hole which has a different angle to the green for the tee shot from that off the 9th tee. Once again a par 3 on this hole is a welcome addition to the card.

Hole 18:  18th Hole

Distance (competition tees): 350yds
Par: 4
SI: 9

The final hole can be very costly if an errant drive fades right and out of bounds. The left-side of the fairawy is the preferred shot as it should finish in the middle. Bunkers to the left and right protect a fairly narrow green and a par/par finish will look good on anyone's card, with the bar awaiting!
