From
the Club Secretary:

Annual
General Meeting 2011

The AGM will take place on Wednesday 28th Sept at 19:00 (we have
put it back slightly to accommodate a seniors meal).  Accounts for 2010
and proposed subscription rates are on the notice board and in the Bar.

MEDALS AND COMPETITIONS

Members are reminded that Medals and Competitions have
priority on the course.  In order to allow ladies to play medals during
the week, the 1st Tee will be closed on the medal day from 9:00 am
to 10:00 am.  Ladies who are playing in pairs will therefore be likely to
overtake slower foursomes.  You are required to allow them to play
through.  When ladies are playing in a medal and are playing the 10th/18th
they have priority over players teeing off the 1st.

Juniors on Club Premises

A situation
recently arose where the Bar was ready to be locked up for the night at 8:45
but because there was an unaccompanied junior here, Debbie had to wait until
his mother picked him up at 9:30.

Please note
that, to avoid this in future, Juniors may not be on the premises after 8 pm
unless accompanied by an adult.

10th/18th
Tee

A meeting was
recently held by the Chairman to address the problems of the 10th/18th
tee and its new position, and a solution was tabled.  This is to return to
the old 10th/18th and extend it further into the corner,
this meaning that drives will have to be towards the bank and away from the
houses.  At the Board Meeting, this decision was ratified as a temporary
measure that can be implemented without delay.  An alternative proposal
has also been put forward and the Chairman asked for plans to be put up in the
Clubhouse for comment.  If any members have comments on the current solution,
the alternative proposal or different suggestions, they will be considered.

Note: A proposal
for alterations to the Course and a plan can now be seen in the Bar.

Vice Captain

The `Wider Cup’ is still planned for Saturday 26th
November but the start time will be 11.30 am.  This is Captain v Vice

first served basis.

basis.

been cancelled by the opposition and will not be re-arranged.

Greenkeeper

Many thanks to the volunteers who helped with the
course maintenance last week – Dick Coe, Harry Dobson, Richard Hall & Roy
Maloney.

Competitions – from Jake

The
September Stableford sheets are up in the foyer. It's looking quite busy in the
morning, but there is plenty of room 11.30 onwards. This will be played on
Sunday 18th September.

Could ALL
players please take note of some simple "rules" where Stableford play
is taking part? If you can't score on a hole, please pick up your ball &
move on. Please, please do not leave your bags in front of the greens whilst
putting. Take your clubs over to the next tee & then return to the green to
"putt out". These are just 2 simple steps to keep the flow of play at
a good pace & prevent any hold ups.

Both the
Churchouse Cup & the Stan Broad Cup Finals have now been posted. These are
on the wall in the Gents locker room & both have a "play by" date
of 30th September.

Next to these
sheets is the 2nd round draw for the Autumn Cup. The remaining ties have a
"play by" date of 16th September (this Friday). There has been plenty
of notice to get these matches played by this date. It was shown on the bottom
of the 1st round draw, well over 1month ago. There is really no excuse not to
have played. Extensions will be considered for specific circumstances.

Seniors

The seniors' match this week was the local derby away against The
Hampshire Golf Club, resulting in a 4-2 defeat for Andover. There were good wins for the two
Johns (Rogers and Howarth) and Des Pearce and Merv Perry, but, among the
defeats, the skipper went down playing with Aggie Boulton, who was
carrying a passenger on the day, who couldn't putt to save his life!!

Next week is the annual match, Captain's team versus Vice-Captain's
team. It looks like it will be 8-a side and all those who have put their name
down will play. It is hoped that the teams will be posted prior to the event
but all who have signed up should meet at around 12.30 on the day. The match
will be followed by a meal.
